Start With the Cause, Not the Product
Standing water is a symptom. The cause could be grading, runoff, downspout discharge, compacted soil, a clogged or damaged buried line, an outlet that can’t carry the water away, or a combination of them. Not every wet area needs a French drain.
So before we recommend anything, we look at how water moves across your property and where it has nowhere to go:
- Surface slope and low areas
- Roof runoff and downspout discharge
- Buried drainage lines
- Catch basins and drainage inlets
- Soil conditions and compaction
- Available discharge points
- Water collecting near foundations, lawns and planting beds

What We Do
Drainage Solutions
Once the cause is clear, the right fix is usually one of these, or a combination of them.
Buried Downspout Drainage
Roof water carried underground, away from the foundation, to a point where it can discharge safely.
Drainage-Line Clearing or Replacement
A clogged or damaged buried line cleared where it can be, or replaced when it can no longer carry water.
Catch Basins and Surface Drainage
Where water gathers on the surface, a grated basin at the low point collects it and pipes it away.
French Drains, When Appropriate
A gravel trench and perforated pipe that intercept water moving through the soil. Useful in the right place, and not the answer to every wet spot.
Standing-Water Correction
Soggy lawns and wet beds addressed at the source, whether that takes regrading, a drain, or both.
Grading and Runoff Solutions
The ground reshaped so water moves away from the house and across the property on a deliberate route.

Beyond the Downspout
Your gutters move water off your home. Broadleaf handles where it goes from there.
A gutter system can be working exactly as it should while water still collects beside the foundation, backs up through a buried line or pools in the landscape. The gutters did their job. The trouble starts after the water leaves the downspout.
That is the part Broadleaf handles: the buried lines, the discharge points and the ground the water has to cross. If the gutters themselves need repair or cleaning, we will tell you, because that work belongs to a gutter company.

Some drainage problems only show themselves in the rain. If a dry-day visit does not tell the whole story, photos or video from the next storm help show what the water is doing.
Drainage Before Irrigation
Excess water is not always an irrigation problem. When a lawn or bed stays wet, we look at drainage and natural runoff first.
Once drainage and runoff are addressed, we reassess how the irrigation system is operating, along with any other water-related concerns, when appropriate.
